| Customer Reviews: Just what I needed October 20, 2009 Watching and waiting (New Mexico, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Not long ago I bought my second HDTV, a 52-inch Sony Bravia. Fine picture, but the sound wasn't as good as my 5-year-old Hitachi that it replaced. In particular, I frequently couldn't understand the dialogue in movies. I figured I needed some auxiliary speakers. I had no interest in a big surround-sound home theater system, just wanted clean clear sound. The speaker bar configuration looked like it would fit well in my setting, so I researched all the popular models, and listened to a bunch of them at my local Best Buy. The Boston Acoustics TVee Model Two was the smallest of the good ones, and one of the least expensive, and had as good sound as any of the others, so I bought one, and have been very happy with the results. I no longer have to replay dialogue segments several times to figure out what people are saying on the screen. The overall sound is richer and fuller than the TV speakers provide, also, thanks in part to the wireless subwoofer that accompanies the speaker bar (yes, it does look like an upside-down wastebasket, but where I have it it fits right in). Setup, including programming my existing TV remote to control the volume and muting, was maximally simple and error-free. The subwoofer has its own independent volume control, so it's easy to get just the right balance of bass and midrange sounds.
This is not a speaker system for serious sound geeks. It will only take an analog signal from the TV speaker out ports. Controls are minimal, just power, volume, and muting. But for someone who wants an order-of-magnitude improvement over the puny speakers that come with today's flat-screen TVs, for about $200, it will fill the bill very nicely.
I see that Amazon doesn't have any new ones of these speakers to sell at present, so this review may be past its use-by date. Nonetheless, I offer it here for what it's worth.
Just like new.... April 8, 2010 M. Pla Jr. The speakers are ok for the value, however I am dissapointed that the listing said "new" when in fact they are really refurbished.
Sound over substance November 16, 2009 A. Settlemier (Portland, OR) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Grabbed this one instead of the Sony soundbar. I went to BestBuy to listen to them and the sound that this put out was far better than the Sony... Deeper bass, wider angle, better fake surround sound, etc.
But... the Sony has so many inputs on the back of the subwoofer, while this one only has the one that connects directly to the TV. The Boston soundbar is ONLY meant to replace your TV sound. It doesn't work like a receiver does at all. I use it for TV, Movies, CD's that I play through my DVD player (through the TV), and my iPod (but I have to unplug the soundbar from the TV and plug that unto my iPod).
Also, there is no remote (picks up the signal from any remote you have... I programed my DVD player's volume controls to the Boston soundbar, but for any remote you program it only works from about 6 feet away!).
Still, I got a great deal, and this thing THUMPS! Great sound. No versatility.
Over priced, unreliable, mediocre sound May 17, 2010 Kenneth Robinson (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this system in July 09, it was dead on arrival. I sent it back to the factory authorized service center. They sent me another unit. Now, the speaker is emitting a loud hum. While it was working the sound quality was mediocre at best. Yes, it is still under warranty but I don't think it is worth returning. All I'd get back is another piece of junk.
Did not work - Sent Back April 10, 2010 Barry C. Collyer Worked for a couple of days....then simply broke. Received a refund minus the postage. Not good experience. Was purchased from a vendor and not direct from Amazon. This was the mistake. Initials are TD...and would not purchase from them again.
